MOVE INDY: Your Indianapolis Moving Company
Caleb A. Coffin, Owner
Move Indy started as a dream at weekly Friday night dinners. Each week's end brought with it conversations of what life could be like if I owned and operated my own business. What would I do differently? How would I make it better?
My wife, Meghan, would listen ever so intently. She was always empathetic. Even so, we were unsure I could take the leap to business owner. There were the obvious concerns (i.e. financial stability), but also the not-so-obvious ones (work/life balance, being able to spend time with my family). Nevertheless, Meghan’s support for my happiness never waivered.
I wanted to create something familiar, but different. I wanted our business to create good jobs with an opportunity for growth. We wanted our people to grow as employees, leaders of the community, and as human beings. Would the work be difficult? Absolutely. Would some people not buy into it? Definitely. Starting a business from scratch is not for the weak. It will test every inch of your being. It will test your relationships. It will test your faith in yourself. But..if you can just hold on long enough, you will be blessed more than you could possibly imagine. |
It goes back to the old saying: you get out what you put in.
In 2019, we took the leap. Meghan gave me a lead: a potential customer who was moving from Indiana to South Carolina. It was now or never. We submitted a bid…and we won the job! Move Indy was born. We had started the business. Operating out of our garage in Brownsburg, we had a pile of moving pads and some rental trucks - but now what?
I remember the day Meghan first sent me a picture of our logo. I remember the morning I took Mark and Doug to breakfast to discuss our new venture. They had quit their jobs. They both have families. They just quit their steady jobs for the promise of nothing but to create this company with me. All the hours. All the hard work. It tested us. It made us stronger. It made us smarter. It made us closer. All the ups and downs. We knew we had to trust each other or the whole thing could collapse. You think you’re tired? Too bad. You have to answer that Yelp lead at 12:05am because it might just be your next source of income. How about doing a 3 truck move with 3 people? 16 hours later, it's time to go to bed so we can get up and do it again tomorrow. It takes dedication and a belief that what we're doing makes a difference. For all of this, I am eternally grateful. |
Some people would say Move Indy is just a moving company. And to them, maybe it is. To me, it's a company that encourages growth. It's a company that wants people to work every single day to make themselves and their environment better. It’s a living, breathing thing that gives back to the community it serves. My passion has always been and will always be people. I want to see our people succeed on every level. I want to take such good care of our people that they have no choice but to take amazing care of every single customer. A company is only as good as its team. We want selfless, hard working and compassionate employees that want to make a difference. Moving is stressful. We want to be the remedy.
Through all the ups and downs, owning my own business has taught me many things. I have learned patience. I have learned that you should only focus on the things you can directly control; worrying about anything else is pointless. It takes a team to make anything successful. I am beyond blessed with the team that surrounds me. I couldn't be more excited for the future!
