Valuation Coverage
Your possessions are important to you - and at Move Indy, we do our very best to ensure they are handled with care!
Unfortunately, sometimes things happen - and when they do, it's important to understand your options BEFORE you book your move.
Many people confuse valuation coverage with insurance.
Licensed moving companies (such as Move Indy!) are required by Federal Law to provide valuation coverage.
With that being said, valuation coverage is NOT insurance.
Move Indy is not licensed to sell insurance and we do not offer insurance coverage; we offer valuation.
This is standard practice within the moving industry.
It is important to understand that valuation is not insurance. Valuation is simply putting a value on your possessions, based on the item's weight.
Move Indy offers two valuation options to protect your possessions during your move: Standard Valuation & Upgraded Valuation.
Standard and upgraded valuation are described below.
Please read this document carefully, as it describes what is covered by valuation and what is not.
Standard Valuation ($.60/lb)
Standard Valuation gives your items protection at $.60/lb for any damages that occur while your items are in our care, custody or control.
For example, if you have an item that weighs 100 pounds and is damaged beyond repair, you will be compensated $60 for that item ($.60/lb * 100 lbs).
This coverage is included with every move at no additional charge.
Upgraded Valuation ($5/lb)
Upgraded Valuation gives your items protection at $5.00/lb for any damages that occur while your items are in our care, custody or control.
For example, if you have an item that weighs 100 pounds and is damaged beyond repair, you will be compensated $500 for that item ($5/lb * 100 lbs).
This coverage is provided for an additional premium, the cost of which is determined at the time of your estimate.
What Is Covered Under Valuation (and what is not)
Valuation covers all upholstered and non-upholstered furniture, as well as any boxes that were packed by Move Indy (MIP).
Valuation does NOT cover any boxes that were packed by the customer (PBO), as we can not guarantee how well these items were packed.
Particle Board Furniture - Pressed wood furniture is composed of particle board finished with a veneer to give the appearance of solid wood. This type of furniture is particularly susceptible to damage when moved. Move Indy does NOT cover Particle Board Furniture under either standard or upgraded valuation.
Upgraded valuation must be purchased in advance (either at the time of booking OR on move day prior to loading).
All premiums paid for upgraded valuation are non-transferrable and non-refundable, even if no damages occur.
Please ask your Move Indy representative if you have any questions about valuation.

Damage Claims
Damage Claims must be filed in writing within 30 days of your move date.
Move Indy will require photos as proof of the damage. In some instances, an in-home visit may be necessary to assess the damage.
Depending on the type and severity of damage, Move Indy may first attempt a repair. Repairs are typically performed for damages to items such as drywall, flooring and glass. Move Indy has a team of licensed professionals it works with to help repair these items.
Move Indy will require time to investigate the claim by reviewing all documentation, speaking with the customer, interviewing the crew, and gathering repair quotes, if necessary. Please understand this process takes time, and an immediate resolution is not always possible. Move Indy always does its best to resolve Damage Claims as quickly and fairly as possible.
If repairs are not possible, either standard or upgraded valuation payouts will be awarded (if it is deemed that Move Indy is responsible for the damage). Customers MUST purchase and pay for upgraded valuation prior to their move in order to be eligible for the higher payout.
***If you have items that are lightweight but expensive to replace (such as flat screen TVs), Move Indy HIGHLY encourages purchasing upgraded valuation. Standard valuation coverage is not meant to cover the total replacement value. If you do not wish to purchase upgraded valuation but you are concerned about these items, Move Indy recommends moving them yourself whenever possible.***
Please ask your Move Indy Sales Associate if you have any questions regarding the Damage Claim process.
